这本英国作家的《双城记》，是19世纪著名作家狄更斯十四部长片小说中最短的一部，但是也是最为惊险曲折。最惊心动魄的一部。

这本小说它主要讲了一段爱恨交加的故事，故事中的卡顿，他是一名律师，但是他整天漫不经心自从他遇见了马内特医生之女露西，就不断的向她诉苦，这让露西知道了他有一颗善良的心。并且他也深深的爱上了她。可是卡顿知道，自己已无法挽回自己，就把这颗心给珍藏了起来······最后，卡顿为了露西的幸福，竟替和自己长得一模一样的达奈从容赴死。之后达奈和露西的子孙都在世世代代的留传着一个名字——西德尼·卡顿。

读完这本小说以后，我陷入沉思：为什么德法日夫人不能像马内特医生一样，放弃恨，放弃恩，放弃杀他们所有人！卡顿为了露西都能从容赴死，而德法日夫人却为了自己的家时而被仇恨蒙了双眼，见到达奈就想杀光所有的人，难道就不能快快乐乐，幸福美满的过完下半辈子吗？想到这，我便为无辜的卡顿和达奈全家人留下了眼泪。

这本小说便是我懂得了做人要心胸宽广。

合上这本书，我觉得银行家罗瑞和律师卡顿有太多的相似之处，他们俩其实是惺惺相惜的，只不过卡顿隐藏的更深，直到最后，罗瑞才发现卡顿是个有感情的人，可是其实自始至终，卡顿一直就看穿了罗瑞那压抑的情感，因为他自也是这样一样将感情深深隐藏起来的人，所以他很能看懂罗瑞的心思。

也正因为这样，卡顿才能觉察这个一向以“办公事”自居的银行家的感伤。故事刚开始时，卡顿就漫不经心的、毫不客气的戳中了罗瑞矛盾的内心，当时罗瑞对他的表现是气愤的，而当故事快结束时，他以真挚的口吻揭露公事公办的人又有私情流露时，罗瑞感到的是意外，他看到了卡顿的另外一面，或者是卡顿本来的样子。正因为惺惺相惜，卡顿最终才把转移露西的计划托付给了罗瑞，因为他们都是靠谱的人。

我们都是有才华、感情深厚的人，请不要因为一时的不如意，而消沉了自己的意志，也不要沉迷虚幻，给自己戴上假面；我们应该像卡顿一样找到自己的光明，为之奋斗。我们也曾态度满不在乎，也曾懒散轻蔑，也曾彷徨漂泊，也曾走投无路，但我们不能因此而沉沦，如果你沉沦了这将是最糟糕的时代，如果你为着光明儿奋斗，用才华和情感获取幸福，这将是最美好的时代！

前些日子借了一本超厚的世界名著《双城记》，看了几章后，我决定还了它，实在没意思，而且又看不懂，不过它的减肥版，总算看完它了。

书中人物其实很多，但人物的各种关系又是那么的令我意想不到，主人公是一个曾在巴士底狱当了18年的囚徒马内特医生，她的女儿露茜，他的女婿查尔斯…我对好人总有一种好感，对坏人总有一种厌恶感，不奇怪啊，每个人都这样，除非他是超级好人，对坏人存有仁慈的心，或者他是超级大坏蛋，对好人总有一种感觉，其实这也不奇怪的，事实就是如此！一群虚伪的家伙。得法热夫妇去找露茜，原以为要帮她的丈夫查尔斯，其实是害了她的丈夫再次入狱，并且最终导致卡登先生的死。

我本人觉得卡登先生很讲义气，重感情，他第一次见露茜就爱上她，虽然表白遭到拒绝，但对她的爱仍不改变，最后为了露茜能和她丈夫团聚，为了露茜不再伤心流泪，他去监狱和查尔斯调包了，用自己的命换了露茜的幸福，不能不说他是令我最受感动的一个人物。

《双城记》是狄更斯最重要的代表作之一，由狄更斯发表的作品，是他迟暮之年的巅峰之作。

我同我的孩子们和朋友们演出威尔基·柯林斯先生的戏剧《冰海深处》的时候，第一次构思了这部小说的主要想法。那时候，我产生了一种强烈的愿望，想亲自把这种想法体现出来；于是我驰骋想象，刻意精心而且兴趣盎然的追踪一个敏锐细致的旁观者非表现出来不可的那种心情感受。

我对这个想法越来越熟悉，同时它也就随之逐渐形成了目前这种形式。在整个写作过程中，我的心神意志完全为它所控制而贯注其中；迄今，我已经证实无误，这些卷页中的所作所为和所遭所受，宛如确实都是我自己亲身的所作所为和所遭所受的一样。

无论何时在书中提及（即令是仅仅略为涉及）法国人在革命以前或革命期间的情况，都是在对最可信赖的目击者确信无疑的情况下如实引述的。我的希望之一始终都是想多少增添一点点大家欢迎而且生动的方式，用来了解那个惊心动魄的时代，固然，要想给卡莱尔先生的'那本令人惊叹之作所包含的哲理，增添任何一点点东西，则是谁也不能奢望的。

《双城记》这部历史小说的创作动机在于借古讽今，以法国大革命的历史经验为借鉴，给英国统治阶级敲响警钟。

故事发生在法国大革命时期，小说围绕着马奈特医生一家以及德日发夫妇展开，前者主要表现爱与善行，主要人物是诚朴善良的马奈特医生，温柔多情、富有同情心而又坚强的露西、正直高尚的达内、仁爱无私又有才能的西得尼。卡顿，这些都是“爱的化身”后者主要着重反映恨与复仇，主要人物是冰冷、毫无人情、最常编织的德发日太太、埃弗雷蒙德兄弟的恶，这些都是“恨的化身”。小说通过爱恨交织，善恶战争，最后如作者所说的“爱总能战胜恨”告终。

最令人感到的是最后兄妹相认、两人相继奔赴断头台的场景，尤其是最后的留言，“我所做的，是我一生做过的最好、最最好的事情；我即将得到的，将是我一生最安详、最最安详的休息”，这充分的显示了卡顿的正义，内在的高尚和看尽人生的超脱。

The tale of two cities is a historical story, one of Dickens’ long fictions.The background to the novel is the revolution of France .It portrayed a brutal and bloody story , but it also contained love and friendship.

In the novel, Dickens sarcastically described a typical cruel nobleman-marquis of Evermonde . When he was young he and his brother stole a countrywoman by force and killed her family .What’s worse , he used his power to imprison Dr Manette , a kind and honest man who knew all the things they had done and wanted to disclose their crimes . In order to hide their crimes. Marquis of Evermonde and his brother threw Doctor Manette into prison for 18 years . During these 18 years,Doctor Manette lost his freedom and suffer a great in spirit .

I felt unthinkable that Marquis of Evermonde and his brother killed people just as easily as they killed chickens. They deprived other people’s freedom as they liked and they thought it was normal and unremarkable. They had never realized that they had done something wrong or something improper. Because their nature was cruel and evil, like demons. There is an old saying which means: People who commit too many crimes will kill themselves. After all, there is justice in the world. The demons can’t be rampant forever. Because the world will not forgive them. They will pay their lives for their crimes. Let’s see the consequence of the Marquis,’’He lay there like a stone with a knife pushed into his heart.” I think it was just what he ought to gain and it is a real exciting scene.

The Marquis’ death was just the beginning of people’s resistance to the nobleman. Gradually more and more people joined in the revolution. One after another nobleman were sentenced to death and their heads were cut down . However, some innocent people were implicated in the revolution. Charles Darney was one of them He was the nephew of Marquis of Evermonde. To the opposite of his uncle, Darney was a kind and independent young man.

Dickens spoke highly of kindness mercy and love in the novel too. This is the other thone of the novel when Doctor Manette was released from prison. It was his daughter Lucie who took care of him and helped him return to normal. During this time, Dr manette and Lucie knew Charles Darney and Sydeny Carton, the two young man fell in love with Lucie at the same time . At last, Lucie married Chares Darney .Dr Manette accepted Darney as his son-in-law although he knew that Darney was the nephew of the man who threw him into prison for18 years. This is the love between father and daughter. And Sydeny Carton , the very great man ,loved Lucie deeply. He promised Lucie that he would do everything for her happiness. He did it truely ,he sacrificed himself instead of Darney who looked the same as him. This is love for lovers . This is the most wonderful thing in the world. It also reminds us that no matter how no matter when there is true love existing. At the end , Lucie, Dr Manette and Darney arrived in England safely.

The tale of two cities is different from other historical fictions. Its characters and main plots are fictional under the real background of the revolution of France. The author made the experience of the fictional charactor Dr Manette as the main clue.The plots are complicated, and they are flexuous and dramatic. The structure is complete and rigorous.

Dickens had dear love and hate. He praised those who ought to be praised and attacked those who ought to be attacked. The motivation of the novel maybe just warn the English dominators. But I think we can learn something meaningful from the tale of two cities.

We were all going direct to Heaven, and we were all going direct the other way. In short, the period was so far like the present period. That some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of parison only. ”

With the beginning of above words, Dickens told us a love story called “A Tale of Two Cities”, which is one of his most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on, which displayed peoples great strength.

The novel has portrayed many different people. Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually , Lucie is beautiful and gentle ,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest ,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss Pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister. The plex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price.

Among many different kinds of people in the story, it is Sydney Carton who impressed me most.

I can’t describe my feeling at the first sight of him. To tell the truth, he was not eye-catching at that time. When the readers were immersed in the meeting between Lucie and Charles, he only played a little role as a lawyer who had the same face with Charles and extricated him from accusation through this point.

Then they went to drink. Without scruple, Carton expressed his dislike to Charles. Yes, they had the same face. But they were different. Carton was a little lawyer, while Charles was a successful man. Carton was quite free and easy, while Charles was graceful and noble. In fact, they were absolutely two distinctive men except for their appearance. Certainly, what Carton cared about was not the wealth or the position, but the love of Lucie. He realized that Lucie loved Charles, so he was barely out of control at that time.

Every time I read this part, I could feel his sincerity and broad-minded. By no means would he say a lie. He must tell you what he thinks in the heart. It is Sydney Carton, a true man.

After a short time, he can’t resist himself going to see Lucie. But when he stepped into the small forest, he saw Lucie and Charles getting together happily. He didn’t rush towards them, however, he returned without a word. Though he had a period of depression after that, he was clear who Lucie loved was not him. So what he only would do was to bless her.

Some days later, he came to meet Lucie again. He still told Lucie about his love, although he knew it was useless. He just wanted her to know it, as he said,“I want you to know that you are my last dream in my life. ”

Many times, love is a thing about only one person. “I love you.”--It’s my business, not yours.

So when Carton showed his deep love to Lucie, I suddenly felt that this man was so lovely and deserved to beloved.

“Remember always there’s a man who could give his life to you, or anyone you love.” Carton left with these words. But all of these seemed a sign of misfortune.

From then on, I came to understand how profound his love was. No doubt that it is the most moving love words in the world. Although you don’t love me, I am still there for you or your beloved though thick and thin.

But I knew in this story, Carton was bound to a tragic role. So when I saw he only left a view of his back in her wedding, there was a plex mood appearing slowly in my heart.

Some years passed. When Lucie appeared in the front of Carton, she became a mother. This time, Lucie’s face was filled with anxiety. Because Charles was in prison and would be killed soon. What lead to this was the plicated and filthy past.

From the point, the dirty of society was reflected. It was the sorrow in that period. But they must pay for this sorrow. So it was the time that Carton achieved his permission. “I told you once, for you I would do anything. I will. ” He said.

At the last moment, he and Charles exchanged. That they had the same face helped them at the second time. When Lucie and her family left without knowing the truth, Carton, instead of Charles, went to be killed.

How can we evaluate his action? We can’t say anything about it because all what he did was out of love.

As he said to the young girl who panied him before died, “If we have no fear, we can be calm all the way.” He was so calm to greet what would be ing soon, for she would get her happiness and he loved her forever.

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” With her face rising before his eyes, he went to execution ground calmly.

Crazily, but truthfully, I finished reading the most part of the novel "A Tale of Two Cities" in just one day. Lost in the story, I felt like being together with the characters and experiencing the same exciting events. Soon it came to an end. To tell you my feelings, its infinite sadness and a strong emotion that can drive me to cry.

The story is set in London and Paris at the time of the great French Revolution. It shows the causes of revolution and its effects on peoples day-to-day lives. Before the revolution, the King and the aristocracy treated their people cruelly in France. The common people were extremely poor and miserable. The crops in the fields were poor as if even the land shared the misery of the people. And there were so heavy taxes that all the villagers had nothing to hand over at last. On the other hand, the aristocracy made their will as the law by using money and gold. There were no justice, no equality and no fairness. Just as what happened to Dr Manette,he wrote to the Minister to show the crime what Marquis Evremonde had done, resulting in himself being arrested and sent to the prison Bastille without any reason.

Then this situation of darkness was needed to be changed. As people such as the Defarges prepared and arranged, at length the Revolution came to break out. When the Bastille was captured and the King was tried and put to death as well as many other aristocrats, things didnt go on as what they had been expected. The situation stayed the same, or even worse. The prisoners from the Bastille were set free while more prisons were filled with people who had done no wrong again. People who once lived on the bottom of class took the charge now and their heart had been full of evil. The only thing they wanted to do was to revenge. And these so-called "patriots" would like to see more and more innocent prisoners going to the guillotine and thats their joy. As the novel wrote,” In everything they did were merciless, for they had been hardened in the fires of suffering and the touch of pity could make no mark on them".

Equality and fairness is what people seek,which led to the French Revolution.As a consequence,neither equality nor fairness was got after the revolution.And thats the tragedy of the history.I was heavyhearted when reading what Sydney Carton said before death and I burst into tears finally.

Now he was a free man, yet he did not know his name, and he did not eat his friends. All he knew was that he had to keep making shoes.

On a bus to Paris, she sat on lucie, the daughter she had never seen before. Lucie brought her father back to London, and, with the love and care of her daughter, he forgot about the past and learned to live as a free man.

Yet during the stormy years of the French revolution, the past was neither lost nor forgotten. And so soon the danger secretly brought lucie and the people she loved back to Paris... There was the horrible death machine - the guillotine waiting for the enemies of France.

The protagonist here is clearly debunking the darkness and corruption of the society at that time. One original for the 18 years as a prisoner, what also dont remember the man, then is he had never met the daughter "back to London, started a free life, but in the end, his daughter and she loved ones were returned to Paris of darkness, by the French enemies killed!

My Opinions About A Tale of Two Cities

A Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens, who was born in Portsmouth, England in 18十二、 As the second of eight children, Dickens had to go to work at the age of twelve to support his poor family, and he lived a difficult childhood. This troublesome time scarred him deeply and provided him with substantial material for such stories as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and Great Expectations. Though just accepted only little education, Dickens became a famous writer through his struggling self-learning and extremely hard work, and he was the representative writer of realism in the 19th century.

Charles Dickens lived in the period of transition between feudalism and capitalism, when the industrial revolution originated in England swept through Europe. As large numbers of workers invaded into urban centers to earn a living, the bourgeois took advantages of the surplus of labor by keeping wages low. The poor thus remained poor, and often lived in a narrow and filthy environment. Dickens’ writing depicted various directions about this society, and provided a keen, sympathetic chronicle of the plight of the urban poor.

A Tale of Two Cities mainly about the great atrocities of French aristocrats compelled the poor citizens to resist violently. Doctor Manette spent eighteen years as a prisoner in Bastille because he intended to expose the atrocity after learning that

Marquis Evrémonde killed a beautiful farmwife and her younger brother because of his brother’s lust. After Doctor Manette was free again, his daughter Lucie got married with Charles Darnay, Marquis Evrémonde’s nephew, but chose to live in England because he could not accept the cruel injustices of the French social system and the snobbish and cruel values of his uncle. However, Marquis Evrémonde continued his atrocities. After his crazy carriage crushed over a farmer’s little baby as if nothing happen, he was killed at night. A revolutionary storm was brewing. Mr. and Mrs.Defarge were the revolutionaries in the poor Saint Antoine section of Paris. They wanted to kill all French aristocrats, including Charles Darnay. Mr.Defarge used to be Doctor Manette’s servant, so he was kind to Manettes, while his wife’s heart burned with longing for revenge. At last, Charles Darnay was judged to death, But Sydney Carton, a lawyer who loved Lucie deeply, willing to die instead of Darnay, as they had similar appearance.

From my personal point of view, the person A Tale of Two Cities described astounded me very much. Some of them were cruel, crazy and reasonless, while some of them were kind, moral and had own mind.

Sydney Carton was the person I thought the most. He was a smart attorney, without his help, Mr. Stryver could not solve any cases. But he was lazy, alcoholic, and cared nothing and nobody, he even could not find any interests in his own life, it seems that he lived just for wasting life. But he loved Lucie deeply. Finally, he

became a hero, because he sacrificed his life to save Darnay. I didn’t know why the author spent so many words to form such a strange guy at frist, he used his life to love Lucie, after all. But now, I caught it. Perhaps the terrible Carton symbolized the terrible old France, and his change in the end shown that everything could change, including the old France, a new and fine society would replace the violence.

Then, Charles Darnay. He was worthy of esteem or respect. He displayed great virtue in his rejection of his uncle, Marquis Evrémonde. Money and power meant nothing to him, if they came from exploitation and oppression. Even though he had to inherit his uncle’s bequest, he left them to the poor and lived in London throught his own effort. When he realized that he must go back to Paris to help Gabelle, one of his servants, and make right the wrong his uncle had done, he acted without hesitation because he knew that was his duty. He even refused Carton’s help after he was judged to death. I thought, Charles Darnay was a shiny diamond in that cruel and violent society, and he was a hope, the hope of equality and peace.

Third, Mrs.Defarge. How crazy this woman was. Nobody could stop her steps toward revenge, except the death. Although it said that wherever there is oppression, there is resistance, I didn’t agree with Mrs.Defarge totally. Her resistance was inhumane, insensible and endless. For just as the aristocracy’s oppression had made an oppressor Mrs.Defarge herself, so will her oppression, in turn, make oppressors her victims. In the end of the novel, her death by a bullet from her own gun. It shown the

author’s belief that inordinate retaliated lust would destroy one own self.

On the whole, A Tale of Two Cities is a successful novel. It shows us oppression and resistance, violence and terror, revolution and vengeance, love and friendship.

I am lucky enough to live in the 21st century, when peace and development are pursued all along. Nowadays, there also are many problems and dissensions among this world, but violence does not the best way problems are solved. Violence just creates more problems, something every sensible person knows. What we need are talks and communication. The time A Tale of Two Cities mentions has gone, we should do enough preparation to adapt the coming age.

This holiday, I used my spare time to read dickenss "a tale of two cities", also have some understanding, I will write down my feelings.

一、 Plot arrangement.

The plot of this book is very mysterious, and the author concatenates all kinds of clues, as mentioned in the article, "weaving" becomes the novel. The greatest feature of the novel is the complexity of the characters, such as the relationship between Dr Manette and danan; The relationship between Mrs D urberge and dannan - the two relations directly led to the final tragedy. And the relationship between Mr. Lorry and Mr. DE hair, and the relationship between the pass and the spy, and so on. These complex figures link the work of this book.

One of the most distinctive chapters of the book is a conversation with a little girl before his death, which thoroughly reveals that the revolutionary masses are too crazy and that the good will live on for ever.

二、 Characters.

The most important character in the book is Charles daran (evmond). He was a very conflicted man, and he hated his father and uncle very much, but he had to support the whole family business. So when the old servant wrote to him, he had to return to France. He was a kind man, possessed of the civility of a nobleman, and when he met his uncle, he made it clear that he could not persecute the people. At the same time, he gave up the privileges of the nobility, which was a good deed.

Sydney Carton was also an important figure. I have never liked this casual, lazy character in the first half of the novel. But in the process of reading later, I found him to be an aggressive and resourceful person. Although it is "friend", but actually caton and south relationship is not so good, but for the sake of the family happiness drops of life, caton willing to the guillotine, let fled south, and the embodiment of the eternal good. In the article, carton died "like a prophet".

Mr And Mrs D arge also belong to the books focus. He was a good man, and he took Dr Manette, and told his wife after the revolution that he would accept it. She was an avenger, and she had been persecuted by the evremonde brothers, so she wanted to kill all the French aristocrats. Now Carton who always hidden loved Lucie went to the prison and he pretended Dannay. So Dannay escaped the prison. And carton was killed. However Madame Defarge still not gave up. She wanted to killed Dannay’s wife Lucie and their young child; finally she was burned by the pross.
