河源市自1996年3月发现第一颗恐龙蛋化石，现又发现恐龙骨骼化石，打破了“有蛋无龙、有龙无蛋”的常规。

这不仅为晚白垩纪恐龙的分布、演化提供了重要信息，同时也为河源增添了新的旅游资源。

二、三年时间，河源市郊区20多平方公里的范围内，已有人找到118窝1073枚恐龙蛋化石。

两年前就有专家预言，河源有可能会发现恐龙骨骼化石，河源市博物馆馆长黄东为此几年来多次做恐龙骨化石梦。

1999nbsp;年7月23日中午，黄东终于梦想成真：市民林德和报告在市郊5公里远的一个黄沙村发现几块骨化石。

黄东赶到现场，举手一锄就很幸运地挖出一条轰动性“新闻”。

nbsp;nbsp;古脊椎动物与古人类学专家董枝明说，从已出土的化石标本分析，它属于兽脚类恐龙，个体较小，大约有两三米长。

这类恐龙生活在白垩纪晚期，距今大约7000万年。

它用两条腿走路，食肉，身体很轻，很灵活。

但现在还不能断定它是不是这类恐龙中的新种，这要到整个化石全部发掘完毕后才能确定。

龟鳖类动物化石nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;继恐龙骨骼化石的惊人发现之后，河源古脊椎动物再添新族。

1999年9月4日，河源市发现龟鳖类动物化石。

这是白垩纪晚期的龟鳖类动物化石。

它可能是一只陆相龟，是与已发现的恐龙同期生活的古脊椎动物，距今约7000多万年。

发现此类化石，为白垩纪晚期动物分布的研究提供了实物佐证，直接丰富了河源的旅游资源。

nbsp;菊石化石群落nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;这个神奇的菊石化石遗址，在河源市双江增坑被发掘出来。

专家称，这个菊石化石群落，个体直径一般达1-10厘米，其菊石之大，堪称我国之最。
